Responsible research and innovation (RRI)

In responsible research and innovation (RRI), actors such as researchers, citizens, companies, decision-makers, politicians and other actors must work together throughout the research and innovation process to adjust and update both the process and the outcome in relation to society's values, needs and expectations.

The Danish Board of Technology (DBT) has more than 30 years of experience in developing and implementing methods of public engagement in research and innovation. We work continuously to improve the interaction between science and society through multi-actor approaches, societal engagement, stakeholder engagement, citizens’ dialogue, policy dialogues and more. We pioneered the ground-breaking methods such as the consensus conference, the citizens’ summit, the future panel, and the World Wide Views method. We are proud to say that we have helped decision-makers in all corners of Europe to balance opportunities against risk and values against interests in the interfaces between science and society. We do our work in fields as diverse as ICT development, cognitive science, climate change adaptation, biodiversity governance, pandemics response governance, and more.
